World-Class furniture designs take center stage at Chippendale School’s 2023 Graduate Exhibition

Designer Katie Richter’s work is inspired by the natural world. Richter is a graduate from the 2022/23 Professional Course.

The renowned furniture school, The Chippendale International School of Furniture, is hosting it's 38th annual Graduate Exhibition & Fine Furniture Sale in June 2023.

Taking place between June 14-17, the event will showcase a range of fine furniture crafted by students graduating from this year’s Professional Course.

The nine-month Professional Course attracts aspiring furniture makers from across the globe and has gained international fame as a training ground for exceptional woodworkers. Providing students with the essential skills and knowledge to successfully establish and run their own furniture-making business, the Professional Course covers everything from design techniques to marketing strategies.

On the 2022/23 course are 30 talented students from around the world, including India, Chile, Thailand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Malta, the UK, and Ireland. Among the exhibiting students is Eivind Haarr Smedal from Norway. His Danish cord woven rocking stool is as fun as it is aesthetically pleasing, which will be displayed alongside his slanting ash bench inspired by the rugged snowy landscapes of Northern Norway.

Also on the course is Nick Davis from England. His cleverly designed curved benches, surrounding a coffee table are an example of how good design is often beautifully simple. He will also be exhibiting a blue veneered pantry cabinet and an arts- and crafts-inspired lounge chair.

Tom Fraser, the Principal, commented: “Our annual Graduate Exhibition is a celebration of the exceptional effort and dedication our Professional Course students have demonstrated over the last nine months.

“The course is intensive and a one-of-a-kind in the UK, and every year we are astounded at the creativity and talent our students showcase in their final designs.

“This is a chance for visitors to witness the very best in up-and-coming global furniture design talent – and you can even go home with one of the stunning designs if one catches your eye.”

Tickets are free but time slots must be booked in advance. Visit the website to book: https://chippendaleschool.com/furniture-making-courses/the-chippendale-…

For anyone who can’t attend in person, the Exhibition will also be showcased online via the School’s website, Facebook and Instagram channels.
