AutoSense Drill Knows When to StopTOWSON, MD  — This spring BLACK+DECKER will introduce the new 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense™ Technology, the first drill that is designed to intuitively understand when to stop screws flush with the work surface.

Research has confirmed that do–it–yourselfers are frustrated with mechanical clutches. The 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense Technology instead has an automatic clutch that has proven to be three times more accurate than a mechanical clutch**. Homeowners no longer need to experiment with trial and error to set the clutch.

The 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense has two modes, drill and drive. In drive mode, a microprocessor continuously measures the tool’s performance. As the screw enters the material there is a rapid change in its torque profile. The microprocessor analyzes the rate of change and stops most screws flush with the material within three milliseconds. To countersink screws, the tool provides depth control for micro adjustments. In drill mode, the combined power of the 20V MAX* battery and the drill’s 0–800 RPM motor provide the performance necessary for the quick completion of any homeowner application.

AutoSense Drill Knows When to Stop“After spending a lot of time observing and listening to homeowners, we discovered that most people are frustrated with the complexity and uncertainty of traditional mechanical clutches. We focused on making this drill/driver simple and intuitive – our goal for AutoSense Technology is to empower homeowners to complete DIY projects with more confidence and better results.” said Matt Nestorick, group product manager for BLACK+DECKER.

Without the added bulk of a clutch, the 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense Technology is a streamlined, compact tool that is easy to use, limits hand fatigue, and has the power, performance, and technology to get the job done – and done right. For added comfort, an over-mold rubber handle offers secure grip and control.

A battery status indicator lets you know when the battery needs to be recharged and an LED work light on the foot of the drill illuminates large work surface areas and reduces shadows.

The 20V MAX* Drill/Driver with AutoSense Technology is sold with a charger and a 20V MAX* lithium ion battery, which holds a charge for up to 18 months. The 20V MAX* lithium ion battery is part of an interchangeable system that powers more than 30 BLACK+DECKER Power Tools, Outdoor Products, and Home Products combined.

AutoSense Drill Knows When to StopThe 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense™ Technology is the first product to feature BLACK+DECKER’s new identity. More than just a logo change, new BLACK+DECKER products, which range from power tools to outdoor and home products, will be Honest, Intuitive, Involved, and Thoughtful.
