Powerful, rugged, and comfortable to hold. These typical attributes of MAFELL's carpentry machines and power tools are now available in the new generation of brushless cordless drill drivers. The MAFELL cordless drill driver A18 M bl and cordless impact drill driver ASB18 M bl combine supreme performance with a lightweight and compact design. Optimized for the special requirements of the timber construction trade, MAFELL's new 18-Volt cordless machines offer the compelling benefit of the largest adjustable torque range on the market.

At the heart of the new cordless drill drivers is a highly efficient and practically wear-free brushless motor. These formidable tools obtain their power from high-performance, latest-generation lithium-ion batteries – with a capacity of either 72 Wh (4.0 Ah) or 94 Wh (5.2 Ah). "We are now offering carpenters and timber builders the performance traits they already rate so highly in MAFELL's mains-powered machines in cordless drill drivers as well," explains Ralf Kohler, the company's head of sales and marketing.

The charge of the power pack, which MAFELL calls a Power-Tank, lasts for a very long time. Furthermore, the Power-Tank is revived to full capacity very quickly by the charger APS 18 M. To allow uninterrupted working, the MAFELL cordless drill driver and impact drill driver are supplied with two Power-Tanks as standard.

The high adjustable torque of the MAFELL cordless drill drivers – up to 30 Nm for soft screwing applications, is not only measurable, but also palpable when driving screws. As a consequence, even timber construction screws up to size 10 x 400 mm (3/8 x 15 ¾ in) can be fastened tight with tremendous precision. With the drilling mode selected, torque of up to 44 Nm and 90 Nm is available for soft screwing (typically in wood) and heavy-duty screwing (typically in metal) respectively.

Great versatility thanks to three operating modes

Intelligent electronics take care of switching between the drilling, impact and preset torque modes at the push of a button. This capability not only makes the MAFELL cordless drill drivers highly versatile, but also ensures the high precision and ease of use that are typically associated with the company's machines. Another time-saving feature, especially when executing a variety of tasks on site or in the workshop, is the quick-release system for the chuck, bit holder and angle head.

Tradesmen who are often confronted with immovable screws when carrying out renovation work will very much appreciate the impact mode. This setting also facilitates the positioning and initial fastening of screws on smooth surfaces, and thus prevents unintentional slipping and scratching. In addition, the electronic torque clutch simplifies the positioning and exact, flush fastening of small-diameter screws. In the first four torque settings, the speed and torque are automatically adjusted to achieve the best screwing results.

Apart from the accuracy and labor-saving benefits, the electronics also help to avoid injury. If the bit or screw encounters a knot, rebar or insert, the cordless drill drivers shut down immediately, and kick-back protection averts the danger of recoil, which can give rise to painful twisting of the wrist or lower arm.

The cordless drill drivers also incorporate continuous electronic monitoring of the temperature, current and voltage. This protects the valuable lithium-ion battery cells against overloading and thus significantly prolongs service life.

The key credentials of MAFELL's new generation of cordless drill drivers are stamina, power and intelligent electronics. But tradesmen also appreciate their light weight of just 1.7 kg (3,7 lbs) (1.8 kg (4 lbs) for the cordless impact drill driver), including the Power-Tank, and the compact design. These attributes reduce user fatigue when the job calls for repetitive and overhead assembly work.

Low weight and compact design

The supplied quick-release chuck that opens from 1.5 to 13 mm (1/16 to ½ in) can accommodate steel drill bits up to 13 mm (1/2 in) and wood drill bits up to 50 mm (1 15/16 in). Depending on the on-site conditions, the cordless drill drivers can also be used without the chuck. The truncated design is ideal when work has to be performed in confined spaces.

The optional torque amplifier trebles the available torque, so that even 12 x 500 mm (½ x 19 11/16 in) screws can be fastened easily. For those who wish to drill exactly right-angled holes in thick beams, the clamping collar of the cordless drills fits exactly in the MAFELL BST drilling station.

Supplemental features, such as LED lamps with a motion sensor, a belt clip that fastens to the left or right of the machine without any tools, and two bit holders, add to the ease of working with MAFELL's cordless drill drivers.

The MAFELL cordless impact drill driver ASB18 M bl is additionally equipped for hammer drilling. The hammering action is recommended in particular for dense building materials, including perforated concrete block, limestone and bricks. The ASB18 M bl is only marginally heavier (100 g) (0, 22 lbs) and a little longer (22 mm) (7/8 in) than the cordless drill driver.

MAFELL supplies both the cordless drill driver A18 M bl and the cordless impact drill driver ASB18 M bl in the practical, sturdy and stackable MAFELL MAX 2 carrying case, together with a quick-release chuck, quick-release bit holder, two 18 M 72 Power-Tanks, the charger APS 18 M, and an auxiliary handle. Even greater stamina and a broader application scope is provided by the version with the quick-release angle head and two 18 M 94 Power-Tanks.
