From wood purses to sunglasses and even some clothing, wood, one of nature’s most sustainable resources has been making a fashion statement with positive environmental impact for some time. Newly added to the list of unique, trendy and eco accessories are wood watches from SpringBreak that are scheduled to officially launch June 25.

Designed by SpringBreak Wood Watch co-founders Kwame Andrews and Maurice Davis, these watches are crafted from maple and are hypoallergenic with no finish. “We think this gives a better look and consider raw-wood more fashionable,” says Andrews. “We chose maple wood for various reasons. We were extremely attracted to the look and feel, and we learned that this wood is typically used to smoke foods and to create musical instruments, which was unique.”

The watches are wider than most wood watches with enhanced details and the wood links are held together with small metal pins, which can be easily removed. Currently manufactured overseas, Andrews says he expects production will move to the Charlotte, NC, by the end of the year.

A Timeless Friendship
Andrews and Davis are long-time buddies who grew up together and went to college together. Later, Davis, an army veteran and Andrews, an MBA graduate, decided to combine their experience in the military and corporate world with their love of fashion.

"Our name SpringBreak Watches was inspired by the soul and essence of our signature watches," Andrews says. "We really enjoyed our time and experiences during college and we wanted to encompass that spirit and emotion into our watch brand."

Also, SpringBreak plans to donate a portion of sales from each watch sold to children living in hunger. "Our reason for creating the company is to empower other young entrepreneurs to chase and achieve their dreams and to help children living in hunger in America.
