SAN DIEGO – Good times are in store for participants of the Closets Conference & Expo, co-located with Wood Pro Expo California.
According to U.S. News & World Report, San Diego, long known as “America’s Finest City, is also “the most fun place to live in the U.S.”
San Diego bested San Francisco for the top spot. Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Nashville rounded out the nation’s top five most fun places to live in the rankings released by U.S. News in November 2021.
While the 3.3 million people who live in and around San Diego are able to enjoy its sunny weather, 70 miles of oceanside beaches, and cultural amenities year-long, tourists who flock there can regale in all of the greatness the area has to offer. That includes the great abundance and diversity of restaurants, which U.S. News ranked No. 1 among its list of 30 most fun cities. In addition, San Diego-area parks, including the San Diego Zoo, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park to name a few, were ranked No. 8 by U.S. News.
Gaslamp Quarter: The ‘historic heart’ of San Diego
In its writeup, U.S. News emphatically notes that the historical Gaslamp Quarter is not only renowned not for its many styles of outstanding restaurant cuisines, but for its “vivacious nightlight throughout.”
Guests of the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, the headquarters hotel for the three-day Closets and Wood Pro event, will find themselves in the ‘historic heart’ of San Diego.
The Gaslamp Quarter got its name during the late nineteenth century when gas lamps lit the way for getting around the city at night. Dozens of the refurbished gas lamps remain in place as a reminder of the area’s glorious and bawdy past. While the quarter quickly developed as a hub of commerce, the area also harbored dozens of houses of ill repute.
Today, there are about 100 historical buildings located within the 16 blocks of the Gaslamp Quarter. Among these Victorian-era landmarks are the Yuma building Old City Hall, Louis Bank of Commerce and the Royal Pie Bakery building.
