VANCOUVER, BC, -- Sales of new homes in the US have bumped up and down for the second half of this year and recovered upward once again in October. While it is true that a slowdown is apparent in both construction and home buying activity, it is important to note that new building activity year-to-date remains almost even compared to January - October of 2021.

Man killed in workplace accident

SALINA, Kan. -- The Salina County Sheriff’s Office said a man died in an on-the-job accident at a woodworking plant last week. Local news station KWCH said the sheriff’s office reported that around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, emergency crews responded to Crestwood Inc. A worker at the cabinetry business was trapped under a 1,800-pound load of wood.

Unifor workers in Sault Ste. Marie approve new contract

About 100 members of Unifor Local 1359 union voted 80% in favor of a new 5-year collective agreement with Interfor covering its I-Joist mill in Sault Ste. Marie.  Stephen Boon, Unifor National Representative, said, “as indicated by the strong ratification result, our Sault Ste. Marie members were very pleased with the solid gains secured in this new collective agreement. This deal provides long-term stability for Interfor while providing our members with some of the largest monetary increases in the forestry sector in several decades."
