G-P to Shut Down Gloster Plywood Mill

ATLANTA – Georgia-Pacific Corp. announced it will close its plywood mill in Gloster, MS, in early December. According to the Picayune Item, the shut down will put 280 employees out of work. In September, G-P closed down its plant in Tylertown, MS, and laid off 35 workers.Read more.

Chromcraft Revington to Bid Adieu to Upholstery

LINCOLNTON, NC – Chromcraft Revington said it will close its century-old upholstery plant here on Nov. 29, putting about 185 employees out of work. The Cochrane Furniture plant, acquired by Chromcraft Revington in 1996, will be shut down in favor of sourcing products from foreign sources, according to the Gaston Gazette. The paper reported that warehouse and distribution activities at the Lincolnton facility would be shut down in the first half of 2009.

IKEA Recalls Chest of Drawers

WASHINGTON–IKEA, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a voluntary recall to repair approximately 5,000 chest of drawers. An additional 26,000 units were sold outside the United States.

New Norwalk Furniture Owners Secure Equipment Loan

NORWALK, OH- The owners of Norwalk Custom Order Furniture were granted a $225,000 revolving loan fund agreement from the Norwalk City Council. The 2% fixed-interest-rate loan will go toward the purchase of new equipment, including CNC routers, according to the Sandusky Register. The new equipment will reportedly allow the company to handle custom orders more efficiently.
