Bienenstock Furniture Library awards $5,000 scholarship to design student

HIGH POINT, NC - Bienenstock Furniture Library has announced the winner of its interior design competition. Ben Bridges, of Appalachian State University , was awarded a $5,000 scholarship and her school was awarded $1,000. Bridges was also been given memberships to the ASFD and ASID professional associations. "The intention of these scholarships is to encourage and inspire the best and most creative minds and help them to develop their talents,” said Russell Bienenstock, president of the Library Board.

Meet the NCAA Final Four hardwood court provider: Connor Sports

AMASA, Mi. – The official basketball court provider for the NCAA Final Four has been hard at work doing what it does best. With this year’s March Madness underway, Connor Sports built hardwood courts at all first and second round sites in Buffalo; Indianapolis; Milwaukee; Orlando; Sacramento; Salt Lake City; Greenville, S.C.; and Tulsa, OK. It also installed courts at all men’s and women’s regional sites.

Southern pine beetle could devastate southeastern U.S. wood products industry

BIRMINGHAM, Al. - Considered one of the biggest causes of economic loss in forestry in the southeastern U.S., the southern pine beetle is a real threat to the region’s wood products industry. This year's concerns stem from a record-setting drought in the area, which caused many trees to not make enough sap. Sap is the tree's best defender against the beetles.

Universal Forest Products expands into hardwood with Indiana firm purchase

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Universal Forest Products Inc. has announced that one of its affiliates has closed on the purchase of certain assets of Quality Hardwood Sales, LLC, a Nappanee, Ind.-based manufacturer and supplier of hardwood products, including components for cabinets used in homes and recreational vehicles. This is Universal’s first operation devoted to hardwood products. Quality Hardwood saw net sales of $30 million in 2016. The company’s management will remain.
