Cool engineering: Machine sets up wooden dominoes in neat rows

Matthias Wandel, woodworker, engineer, inventor of the PantoRouter, and YouTube extraordinaire, uses his engineering skills to create a unique machine that sets up dominoes in uniform rows. The machine works by pushing a magazine full of dominoes forward along the table while a slider pushes them out one at a time as the machine slowly drives along. Infested beetles force Hong Kong hospital to remove wooden cabinets

HONG KONG - Bugs have forced the removal of 71 wooden cabinets in a Hong Kong hospital. The hospital called upon Hong Kong's Architectural Services Department to carry out a comprehensive investigation.
 
On August 11, Tin Shui Wai Hospital (TSWH) received notice from ArchSD that the removal of the 71 infested wooden cabinets was complete. ArchSD's findings revealed that the cabinets came from a construction site that wasn't thoroughly dry and enclosed.

Scientists use massive wood sample collection to fight illegal logging

WASHINGTON - Wood enthusiast Archie F. Wilson assembled the largest private wood collection in the United States in the 1940s and 50s. Now that collection, consisting of 4,637 wood samples, is being used to combat illegal wood trading around the world.
 
“Reliable wood identification is one of the fundamental challenges facing efforts to control illegal logging and associated trade,” says Charles Barber, director of the World Resource Institute’s Forest Legality Initiative.

Congressman visits Timber Products, slams Chinese trade issues

MEDFORD, Ore. – Known for advocating free trade, Oregon Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR), the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, was welcomed at Timber Products’ hardwood plywood facility in Medford, Oregon, where he toured the company's manufacturing plant.
 
“Greg has been a great advocate in our trade case against Chinese hardwood plywood and our efforts to protect jobs," said Timber Products CEO Joe Gonyea III.
