Additional tariffs levied against U.S. hardwood & veneer exports to China

WASHINGTON - U.S. hardwood lumber, logs and veneer exports are among the products impacted in a new round of tariffs announced Friday by the Chinese government. The tariffs will be implemented in two phases, beginning Sept.1 and Dec. 15.  New and additional tariffs of 5% and 10% on being levied. According to information provided by the American Hardwood Export Council and the National Hardwood Lumber Association,  products impacted include:

Weinig Group names Reid North American president

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - The Weinig Group has appointed Brett Reid president of the North American region, which includes operations in the United States and Canada. The appointment is effective immediately and follows the Group’s recently adopted market-based strategy combining Weinig Holz-Her USA and Weinig Holz-Her Canada into a single North American business unit.

ACPI parent AIP among bidders for Masco Cabinetry division

ACPI cabinetry's parent American Industrial Partners is among the bidders for Masco Corp.'s cabinet business, which includes the KraftMaid, Merillat, Masco Cabinetry, and Cardell Cabinetry brands, according to news sources. Other bidders making it to the second round of a possible $1.2 billion sale include Bain Capital, Clearlake Capital Group LP and W.W. Grainger.

ASTM revises furniture stability standard

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Penn. – Revisions to the voluntary furniture stability standard for clothing storage units are expected to be published this month, according to information from the American Home Furnishings Alliance. The revision to ASTM F2057 expands the scope of the standard to clothing storage furniture 27 inches and taller, as opposed to 30 inches and higher previously, and incorporates two new warning labels.
