The Evolution Vertical CNC from Holz-Her is a small footprint machining center that can machine all four sides of a part in a single setup, handling routing, vertical and horizontal drilling as well as grooving, the company says. The Evolution is outfitted with a six-position automatic toolchanger. A division of solid wood specialist Weinig Group, Holz-Her also had on display a variety of CNC panel processing machinery, including panel saws, edgebanders and boring machines.

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Vertical panel saws from Putsch USA, and from Streibig (eing displayed by Colonial Saw) will  and Putsch, and Castle's award winning pocket joint machine will be running live at Cabinets & Closets Expo, April 15-16 in Schaumburg, IL. Visitors can also learn about sliding table saws from SCM, Stiles and Felder at the Chicago event. Register for CCCE Now!

Castle CSI 1.5 Pocket Cutter and Screw Inserter Castle will show its CSI-1.5 Pocket Cutter/Screw Inserter. (See video below.) Castle says pocket screw joinery, used by 53% of cabinetmakers for face frame assembly, and it is gaining ground in the assembly of cabinet boxes.

Proponents tout several advantages over other joint approaches. It is one of the fastest and simplest methods, since only one of the components being joined must be machined. It eliminates gluing, and therefore clamping. Training is minimal. It makes for fast butt joints that are strong. And it works equally well with high pressure laminates, panel, and hardwood and softwood.

Domino hand held joining machines from Festool will be on view at Eveready Hardware; and the Lamello will be at the Colonial Saw booth.

CNC woodworking machinery makers SCM, Stiles, Anderson, Smart Shop CNC, and Felder will be at Cabinets & Closets 2015, with the latest generation of easier to operate, more versatile and affordable CNCs.

SCM will show its PRATIX S12 CNC machine, along with its K600 edgebander. The Pratix S series is SCM's economically priced CNC Router for machining wood, plastics and non-ferrous metals. It requires less floor space and can be operated from either side for material handling of smaller components. Designed "for all woodworking and furniture workshops" with limited space availability. Visitors can also learn about SCM's Tech Z1 pro, which lends itself to the production of custom furniture and for machining panels.

Holz-Her will unveil 5-piece door machining in its Evolution. The development was enabled by advances in software that integrate panel and solid wood machining operations: EnVision software.  EnVision, a plant-wide software that integrates manufacturing data flow through both panel and solid wood machinery, was developed by Holz-Her's sister company, Weinig.

Aimed at both the solid wood and panel industries, it is intended to enable mass customization production.

By integrating it into the Evolution, which first launched as a panel cutting center, Holz-Her has adapted the machine to cut solid wood as well, allowing it to make a complete cabinet door.

Compact CNCs with simplified operation and user interfaces is a growing trend among manufacturers.

Thermwood, for example, will show the capabilities of its Cut Ready-Cut Center, which prompts operators to select from a menu of scalable furniture and cabinet designs, Thermwood marketing manager Jason Susnjara says the first Cut Ready has been sold.

The operator-friendly Stiles BHX vertical machining center (see video below) will also be featured at the show. It cuts panel vertically, and is able to fit even in cramped quarters for smaller woodworking businesses. Felder will feature its Format 4 HO8 CNC machine, priced at a level to encourage first-time CNC adopters. The latest offerings from Anderson and Smart Shop CNC will also be on view.
