Woodwork Institute announces award winners for 2023

The winner of the Woodwork Institutes' McClure Craftsmanship Award was Crestmark Millwork for its Prism Apartments project.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Woodwork Institute has selected two projects fabricated by Crestmark Millwork of Arcata, California, as winners of its Ralph B. McClure Craftsmanship Award and Bernard B. Barber Jr. Award for Excellence. 
To be eligible for the awards programs, projects had to be certified through the Woodwork Institute’s Certified Compliance Program or Monitored Compliance Program. 

McClure Craftsmanship Award 
The Woodwork Institute’s Ralph B. McClure Craftsmanship Award honors a Woodwork Institute Affiliate for its exceptional craftsmanship and/or installation of architectural millwork.

The judges were impressed by: 

  • The extremely complex installation. 
  • The great solution to weight concerns through material selection. 
  • The installation and collaboration required to get the radius look in the ceiling. 

Barber Award for Excellence 
The Woodwork Institute’s Bernard B. Barber Jr. Award for Excellence honors design professionals for projects in which the interior or exterior architectural millwork is a predominant feature.

In selecting this project for the Barber Award, judges referenced: 

  • Creative selection of unique materials appropriate for the building period. 
  • The use of walnut throughout the space. 
  • Classy and impressive design and implementation. 

 The architecture firm, millwork firm, and general contractor each receive national promotion of their work and a custom piece of wall art showcasing the project.
