International Mass Timber Conference draws Weinig companies

PORTLAND, Oregon — Weinig Holz-Her USA's Michael Schlueter and Bodo Lill, along with Thomas Kuehnelt and Rafael Wolanin from Weinig Germany, attended the International Mass Timber Conference and filed this report.  The show was held March 27-29 in Portland, Oregon. The conference is considered one of the premier industry events, setting the bar this year with over 3,000 attendees from 34 countries.

CalPlant announces liquidation

The Northern California-based company, which focused on manufacturing sustainably-sourced building products, including the creation of the world's first no-added-formaldehyde, rice straw-based medium-density fiberboard, Eureka™ MDF,  announced on May 15 that it will be proceeding with an orderly liquidation of its assets.

Single-family starts show gradual improvement in April

WASHINGTON — A lack of existing inventory and stabilizing mortgage rates helped push single-family production up to the highest rate thus far in 2023 even as builders continue to deal with high construction costs, persistent labor shortages, and tightening credit conditions for construction loans.   Overall housing starts in April increased 2.2% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.40 million units, according to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development report and the U.S. Census Bureau.
