Carter Lumber has finalized the purchase of a facility and property near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which will house a component and millwork manufacturing plant. This is Carter Lumber’s 14 component manufacturing plant, and the first in South Carolina, according to a report in the LBM Journal.

SmartLam North America’s Dothan Division plans to construct a new production facility on Hodgesville Road in order to manufacture large glulam beams and columns. The facility is expected to run  $62 million.

Solid wood and youth bedroom furniture manufacturer Maxwood will open a new 500,000-square-foot warehouse in South Carolina, enabling the company to ramp up its quick-ship program.

Hancock Lumber announces its plans to acquire Madison Lumber Mill. Hancock Lumber’s eastern white pine operations will expand to four mills with its first sawmill acquisition in over twenty years.

At least two lawsuits have reportedly been filed in the aftermath of the Sept. 2 Mill Fire in Weed, Calif.

WASHINGTON – The Office of the United States Trade Representative reported Sept. 2 that tariffs on Chinese goods will continue. The tariffs currently apply to approximately $375 billion in annual imports of Chinese merchandise.  In addition, a representative of the USTR said that the policies will be in place while Beijing's policies remain in place.
