Cabinet sales continue year-over-year drop: KCMA March report

RESTON, Va. – Cabinet manufacturers reported overall cabinet sales were down 9.7% for March compared to the same period a year ago, with all three segments reporting declines, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association's March Trend of Business report.

Survey respondents reported overall sales of $247,821 for March. In the year-over-year monthly comparison, custom sales were down 21.5% to $62,660, semi-custom dropped 5.3% to $140,965 and stock sales declined 3.1% to $44,296. Cabinet quantity for the month was at 676,933, a decrease of 8.7% compared to March 2023 figures.

For the year to date, cabinet sales were down for two out of three segments. Custom sales were $173,250, down 19.2%, and semi-custom sales were $383,422, down 3.7%, while stock sales rose slightly, 1.6%, to $128,233, compared to 2023 year-to-date figures provided by respondents. Overall, sales through March dropped 7.3% to $684,906, compared to the same time period last year. Cabinet quantity for the year to date was 1.9 million, a decrease of 3.9% over the time period.

The month-over-month comparison looks markedly different, with survey respondents reporting a 9.8% rise in cabinet quantity in March compared to February figures. All three segments also showed month-over-month gains by respondents, with custom up 9.5%, semi-custom up 14.0% and stock up 3.5% in March compared to February.

Estimated overall market sales for March were $1.4 million and estimated sales for the year to date for the overall market were $3.9 million.

The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) represents kitchen cabinet and bath vanity manufacturers and key suppliers of goods and services to the industry. KCMA has been compiling and reporting industry sales data for more than 40 years.
