Exercise Room Converted to Double-Sided Closet Layout

Updated: 05/31/2013 11:25AM

The homeowners were seeking a creative solution to resolve their complex storage needs. Two existing walk-in closets in use at the time were overflowing with their clothes and shoes. They simply needed more space.

Although the former exercise room had ample floor space and vaulted ceilings, the angled walls created a space planning challenge. Several options were considered and ultimately the problem was solved by designing a full-height floating island in the center of the room. The double-sided layout offered all of the space needed to accommodate their hanging clothes. This in turn opened up the opportunity for the side walls to store an extensive collection of shoes and to create plenty of drawer space for lingerie, scarves and athletic gear. A full-length mirror anchored by a storage bench greets you at the entrance and the two walk-in closets now provide the couple with their own personal space.
