Birch aircraft plywood was the material of choice when London-based designer Benjamin Hubert sought to create the "world's lightest table."

With materials from Corelam, Hubert designed the Ripple table, which weights 9kg (19.8 lbs) and meausres 2.5m (8.2 ft) by 1m (3.2 ft). The new manufacturing process he developed for corrugated plywood in furniture allows for 70-80% less material use than a standard table. The top surface is made up of a flat sheet of birch plywood on a corrugated one, and the A-frame legs consist of two corrugated plywood layers.

Ripple, which can be assembled by one person, was introduced at the London Design Festival in 2013.

Hubert, an industrial designer, founded his London firm in 2009. The award-winning international studio specializes in furniture, lighting, consumer goods architectural installations and art direction.
