Alan Harp designs and builds furniture with the simple philosophy, "Because what you want doesn't exist... yet."
He builds cabinets, desks, dining sets, and beds while working closely with his clients to create pieces that accommodate their specific needs.
For this custom table, Harp was commissioned by a family of avid ping-pong players to create a piece of furniture capable of switching between playing surface and dining mode by removing the net and retracting the drawers.
It features drawers on each end with custom foam nests to hold paddles and balls, along with Blum Tandem soft close slides.
The table is made of Baltic Birch plywood with quarter-sawn white oak and Padauk veneers. The bent laminated base curves are made of 8 layers of 1/8" thick luan formed over a bending jig. The custom woven net is made of oak and Padauk veneers.
