The history of Wiggers Custom Furniture extends back to 1920, when Jan Wiggers began making wooden shoes in the village of Groenlo, Holland. In the 1940's, Jan used a small room in the shop to hide Allied pilots on their way back to England, and by the 1950's, members of the family began emigrating to North America. Today, in their Ontario shop, the family continues to carry on the woodworking tradition in crafting custom tables, cabinets, desks, and beds.
The Ellipse II Table has evolved from John Wiggers' personal interest in bending wood across three-dimensional planes. The base is a tapered elliptical cone and the veneer is a species called Nero Chaquiro, which is sourced from an FSC-certified forest in Brazil. More info on the development of the design is available at John Wiggers' blog.
