Madison College recently hosted its 5th annual Sanding Seminar sponsored by Stiles Machinery. This year, we took another step forward by adding a finishing component to the seminar. According to Peter Van Dyke of Stiles, “Many shops think of sanding as the last step in manufacturing. We like to think of it as the first step in finishing”. The two go hand in hand, and so it made sense to bring in experts from both areas to participate.

On the sanding side, Bob Usselman of 3M demonstrated hand sanding techniques, while Peter Van Dyke demystified machine sanding. The finishing component included presentations by Bob Niemeyer of Niemeyer Restoration and David Greer of Stiles Machinery. The seminar also gave us the opportunity to showcase our new classroom. We were able to comfortably seat over 40 people. It was a wonderful mix of students and industry members, all coming together to further their knowledge.

Madison College is pleased to partner with organizations like Stiles and 3M to promote continuing education for the trade and frequently invites industry members to participate in seminars along with current students.
