Bill Esler After 21 years, the Design Portfolio continues to amaze us at Custom Woodworking Business. The crop of entries this year was astonishing in beauty and refinement. Almost as impressive is the caliber of the photography, which in the case of privately commissioned projects, is the one record a woodworker retains.

This year we have expanded coverage of materials, equipment and processes used on these projects. And we are announcing the winner of the second People’s Choice Awards. View the 38-page 2013 Best of the Best Design Portfolio digital publication issued in December to see all of the winners and entries. Order print copies of it online at

We are also expanding the recognition for this year’s award winners during the gala reception at 2014 Cabinet & Closets Expo – the Northeast Show – April 9-11 in Somerset, NJ.

Stashed Inside: Closet Storage
Year before last year we redesigned Custom Woodworking Business and added another dimension: the flip edition of Closets magazine. In a new placement, you’ll find it in the center of each issue this year. We found that while a magazine always must have a front cover, it also needs a back cover.

As always, Closets – official publication of the Association of Closets & Storage Professionals – covers design trends, hardware and components, and management advice for home storage and closet businesses.
