In addition to the traditional panel judging of entrants — now managed online — we are inviting the wood industry to vote on entrants at WoodworkingNetwork.com/designportfolio. Deadline for People's Choice voting is Nov. 21, 2011.

The goals for this project were to have the veneer blend on all sides of the music box, have a musical theme throughout and have the veneers flow from the inside of the box to the outside. Sound holes are in the back and bottom of the box for the treble and base. The marquetry for the violins on the outside of the top are made from Flat Cut African mahogany and the inside of the top features Bloodwood for the Violins. A clear coat natural lacquer was used to bring out the natural qualities of the wood. By matching up the front and corners and sides and the back with maple burl veneer, it looks like one piece of veneer all the way around the music box. The black inlays around the trim and top lid and segmented feet are Macassar ebony. Zongkers Custom Woods, CATEGORY: Specialty

The Southern Ute tribe is located in southwestern Colorado. This center was designed to share the Southern Ute culture with the world. The millwork was primarily constructed of maple and douglas fir, which was complimentary to the Ponderosa pine used for structural elements. There were significant challenges in following the architect’s plans calling for curved wall panels and intricate casework to reinforce the Southern Ute Circle of Life message. OGB successfully executed the project, which has been nominated for national recognition. OGB Architectural Millwork, CATEGORY: Architectal Millwork

All-wood construction is highlighted by 3/4-inch hardwood dovetail drawers and Blumotion full-extension glides. The white Sherwin-Williams paint and catalyzed varnish topcoat provide a durable finish. Showplace Wood Products, CATEGORY: Kitchen/Bath
