Karen Ridge of Closets By Design PA, Exton, PA is a finalist in the 2015 Top Shelf Design Awards competition with her project “Closet Improvised” entered in the Closet: Laminate Under 18 linear feet category.

Project Description: Without a closet of her own, we were challenged to create one, in an angle under a pitched roof. Through precise measurements and planning, rectangular and triangular doors, deep panels, and drawers combined to create a closet where there was none. In white, with raised panel fronts and traditional moldings, this design fit right into this old home.

Project Construction Details: Working on finished walls, ours was a blank slate. All materials were constructed ahead of time, to minimize disruption to the client. On site, we notched our panels to preserve the room base molding, and custom fit the trims. To meet the sloped ceiling, we layered inverted base moldings.

Materials Used: White cabinetry with raised panel fronts, drawer guides with 100% extension ball-bearing guides, white traditional moldings, chrome interior rods, and porcelain hardware. Cabinetry is constructed of CARB compliant, industrial grade particle board, laminated with soft-touch melamine. Door and drawer fronts are thermofoil on MDF.

Equipment and/or Software Used: Hand drawings.
