2012 CLOSETS Top Shelf Design Award Winning Photos

click image to zoom View slideshows below of the 2012 CLOSETS Magazine Top Shelf Design Award winners announced Feb. 15 at the 8th annual Closets & Home Organization Conference & Expo in Austin, TX.

Susan Gelwicks Thompson of Colony Imports in Stuart, FL, was named Overall Winner in the juried competition, for her "Caypso Palms' Laundry Room" project featuring a mundane laundry room transformed into a tropical oasis.

For the first time ever a People's Choice plaque for top home organization project, voted upon through online balloting, was awarded. Janet Stevenson of Closet City in Montgomeryville, PA, received the most votes for her project "Carol's Closet."

The competition also featured two new categories: Specialty Rooms (pantry, craft, wine, laundry, mudroom) and Professional Showrooms. Specialty Rooms received the most entries with the top prize in the category going to Thompson for "Caypso Palms' Laundry Room (also named Overall Winner).

Category winners received a Top Shelf Design Award trophy commemorating their winning entry and a copy of 20-20 Technologies design software. Honorable Mentions in each category received a certificate. All finalists are featued in a special section of CLOSETS Magazine to be published in the March/April 2012 issue.

OVERALL WINNER &
2012 Top Shelf Awards: Specialty

Susan Gelwicks Thompson of Colony Imports won the Specialty Top Shelf Design Award and was named Overall Winner in the contest. Harold Locklear, Locklear Cabinet & Woodwork was named honorable mention.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE &
2012 Top Shelf Award: Closet melamine 18 feet or less

Janet Stevenson, Closet City, won the 2012 Top Shelf Award for closet melamine 18 feet or less. The project was also received the People's Choice award. Lynn Casanova, Closet Works was named honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Closet melamine over 18 feet
Sue Tinker, Closet Works, wins the Top Shelf Award for Closets, melamine over 18 feet. Rick Lyrek and Steven Kerwick tied for honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Closet wood over 18 feet
Darren Sprowl, Covenant Woodworks, won the 2012 Top Shelf Award for Closets wood/veneer over 18 feet. Tamera Overstreet, Accent Cabinets received an honorable mention

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Closet wood less than 18 feet
Bill Curran, Closet Organizing Systems, won the 2012 Top Shelf Award for Closets wood/veneer less than 18 feet.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Showroom
Harold Locklear, Locklear Cabinet & Woodwork, picked up the top award for in the Showroom Top Shelf Design category. Cecilia Pfaff, Closet Therapy, received honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Home Office over 150 square feet
Janet Stevenson, Closet City, received the Top Shelf Design Award for Home Office over 150 square feet. Harold Locklear and Joseph Lonardo tied for honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Home Office 150 square feet or less
Carey Ekstrom, Closet Organizing Systems, received the Top Shelf Design Award for Home Office 150 square feet or less. Tim Higbee and Robert Meyers tied for an honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Garage over 1,000 feet
Anthony Scaletta, Encore Garage, received the Top Shelf Design Award for Garage: over 1,000 feet. Ellyn Elstein was selected as an honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Garage 1,000 feet or less
Anthony Scaletta, Encore Garage, received the Top Shelf Design Award for Garage: 1,000 feet or less. Jennifer Tarr-Tavani, Closets by Design of NJ was selected as an honorable mention.

2012 Top Shelf Awards: Closet Reach-In
Susan Gelwicks Thompson, Colony Imports, received the the Top Shelf Design Award for Closet Reach-In.
