The global market for plywood is projected to reach 223.4 million cubic meters by 2022, driven by recovering construction activity in most countries worldwide; rise in high value, high rise constructions; growing preference for plywood in interior design especially of floors, ceilings, and walls; and a healthy furniture industry, according to Plywood - Global Strategic Business Report 2016.
Wood has a largely favorable environmental effect, says a study of Switzerland's National Research Programme. "Resource Wood" recommends using wood more widely as a source of energy and as a building material.
Plans are underway for the startup of Two Rivers Lumber Co.'s first sawmill, a $65 million investment that will bring 55 jobs initially, and up to 95 jobs eventually, to west Alabama. When completed, the mill will have an annual capacity of 200 million board feet and produce southern yellow pine dimensional lumber for sale throughout the United States.
