E-Pellets Buys Former LP Mill for Wood Pellet Production

E-Pellets LLC announced plans to convert a formerly shuttered Louisiana-Pacific composite panel mill in Georgia to produce wood pellets for export to Europe.


Fire Destroys Oregon Plywood Mill

Fire raged through the Springfield Plywood and Veneer mill on July 18, speading by airborne debris and causing glue tanks and propane storage to explode. It leaves an uncertain future for the 33-acre mill.


Thermally Fused Laminate Shipments Climb 7.3%

June shipments of thermally fused laminate (TFL) were 118 MMSF, up 7.3% compared to the same period a year ago, according to the Composite Panel Association (CPA).

Arauco Plywood Consolidates U.S., Canadian Operations

Plywood and panel maker Arauco will combine all its U.S. and Canadian sales and operations into one organization, effective August 1. Headquarters for Arauco North America will be in Atlanta, GA.


Touchy-Feely Panels: Laminates & Rough Woods Emphasize Texture

Panels add visual interest these days by incorporating texture. The uneven surface of lightly finished wood adds shadow to the play of light. Laminate panel producers are mimicking this trend – texturizing surfaces to correspond to the visual wood grain pattern.


Wood Composite Panel Production Capacity Declines 4.4%

Total North American production capacity of particleboard, MDF, hardboard and engineered wood siding decreased 4.4 percent from January 2013 to January 2014, according to the Composite Panel Association (CPA).
