Unilin Revamps Chipboard Mills for $55 MillionOOSTROZEBEKE, BELGIUM - Unilin said it will invest more than $55 million (€40 million) to upgrade two chipboard facilities in Belgium. Unilin, a subsidiary of Mohawk Industries, acquired the chipboard plants as part of last year's acquisition of SpanoGroup.

Production at one panel plant in Wielsbeke, Belgium will be closed and capacity diverted to the other two plants, one in Wielsbeke and the other in Oostrozebeke. "The increased production in the two remaining plants together with the other plants of the Unilin group in the Wielsbeke region generates more than enough jobs so there will be no negative impact on employment," a company statement said.

The Unilin group has three divisions for panels, insulation and flooring. Under the latter segment, Unilin manufactures laminate flooring under the Pergo and Quick-Step brands.
