Canfor Corp. continues its acquisition spree of U.S. lumber firms with the purchase of Southern Lumber Co.'s operating assets.The $48.7 million purchase is expected to be completed by the end of first quarter 2015.

Hemlock, Spruce, Cedar Logging Auction at Tongass Forest

U.S. Forest Service will auction rights to almost 10 square miles of logging rights at Tongass National Forest. Hemlock, spruce and cedar woodlands will be sold in an effort to support logging and sawmill firms until second growth forest lands mature.

Some $63 million in Eucalyptus woodEucaplyptuschips were bought by Armco Metals Holdings' (NYSE MKT: AMCO) China subsidiary in a trial deal. Importation of woodchips by China surged and in 2013 China became the largest chip importer.
