Hardwood lumber demand is expected to slow in February 2015, according to the latest Leading Hardwood Demand Indicator (LHDI), a forecast of future demand for U.S. hardwood lumber construction, trade trends and job markets.

Lumber giant Weyerhaeuser (NYSE: WY) fourth quarter earnings rose 31% to $166 million on revenues of $1.8 billion. For the year, net income more than tripled to $1.8 billion. China's demand slackened, the company says.


U.S. Canada Softwood Lumber Agreement Expires October 2015

The Softwood Lumber Agreement between the United States and Canada is set to expire October 2015, marking the end of the two-year extension. The agreement prohibits the Canadian federal and provincial governments from providing subsidies to the Canadian lumber industry.

Timber investment firm Timbervest LLC has sold more than 10,000 acres of timberland assets in Florida, South Carolina and Vermont from its fund. The combined value of the three transactions totals more than $14.2 million.
