WoodWorks Chicago Area Workshops Focus on Design for DurabilityWASHINGTON DC - Woodworks – The Wood Products Council will host three workshops in the Chicago area with the theme: “Design for Durability: Performance and Preservation.”

Woodworks, an industry advocacy group that advance the use of wood in construction and design,  will be in Oak Brook, IL, on March 25, in Chicago on March 26, and in Schaumburg, IL, on March 27. A May 22 Chicago Wood Solutions Fair is scheduled for May 22 in Schaumburg, IL. 

At the Design for Durability workshops Kart Kardel of Kardel Consultancy will present “Detailing Best Practices: Air Barriers, Moisture Retarders and Windows.” Kardel will address recent epical changes in the building environment related to air barriers while focusing on how to put building components together to control air and water leakage, including water barriers and windows.

Dallin Brooks of Western Wood Preservers Institute will present “Treated Wood and Design.” The course offers advice for specifying alternatives to chemicals used to protect wood durability.

Ron Anthony of Anthony Associates Inc. also will speak on the “Preservation of Historic Wood Structures.” The presentation will include factors that affect wood performance, the basics of conducting a condition assessment and how to maximize the retention of historic fabric while extending the life of the structure.
