Wagner Hardwood Lumber Mill Hit by Massive FireWagner Lumber, Owego, NY mill, a 53,000 square foot facility, was consumed by a massive fire Feb. 17. The blaze drew 17 firefighting companies. A fireman's helmet webcam shows the destruction of one of the largest hardwood lumber mills in the Northeast U.S. Wagner Companies, which employs 250 and produces 60 million board feet annually at its mills, has operations in Cayuta, Nineveh, and Friendship, NY.

“My best guess is that 90% of the equipment, that’s pretty specialized manufacturing equipment in the mill, is a total loss,” Steve Schaeffer, VP of Wagner Companies, told a reporter at WETM-TV. “We always like to think that crisis creates opportunity. And this creates a lot of big opportunities because it's a pretty big crisis.”

No one was injured, according to local media reports. The cuase of the fire is under investigation.
