Hochstetler Wood's Vertically Integrated Manufacturing Plan

By Karen Koenig | Posted: 10/07/2013 9:30AM

Hochstetler Wood Ltd. has occupied its Millersburg, OH-based location since its startup in 1973, producing a variety of wood components including: edge-blued panels, mouldings and other machined parts. Sister firm HW Chair produces solid wood seating for the residential, commercial and institutional markets. There are roughly 48 employees at the three facilities.

Diversified and vertically-integrated, Hochstetler also owns and operates tree farms in Ohio and West Virginia. Raw material also is sourced from mills and brokers in the Appalachian Region.

Good Stewardship

Environmental and community stewardship is important at Hochstetler, which combines high technology and craftsmanship in its operations.

Already efficient, Hochstetler looks to further streamline its operations. An OSI planer was recently added to the rough mill operation, which includes Eagle and Progressive saw systems as well as Kentwood moulders. Timesavers and Cemco sanders also are used at the facilities.

The firm produces approximately 800 to 900 chairs a week. In addition to Bacci, Balestrini and MZ machines for producing parts, Komo and CR Onsrud CNC routers also are integral.

The company was one of eight woodworking facilities recently toured as part of the 2013 Wood Component Manufacturers Association's annual Conference and Plant Tour Event in September.
