New York, NY , September 25, 2010 -- TechShop, the first membership-based DIY workshop and fabrication studio, today announced at the 2010 World Maker Faire its plans to open a TechShop location in the greater New York area in 2011. Soon, New Yorkers will be able to take advantage of TechShop's broad array of advanced machines, tools, and technology classes to design and make almost anything they can imagine.

TechShop at World Maker Faire
As part of the World Maker Faire being held today and tomorrow at the New York Hall of Science, TechShop is sharing exhibit space with leading technology providers Autodesk and 3D Systems. The booth presents an overview of the broad array of machines, tools and instruction that will soon be available to New York area hobbyists, artists, start-ups and others who want to make things but lack the tools, space or skills to do so. TechShop staff is on site to discuss how its members can make things on machinery that ranges from manual mills and lathes to laser cutters, plasma cutters and a 4-axis CNC milling machine. These tools form the core of the equipment that TechShop offers its DIY workshop members for a monthly access fee.
TechShop recently announced an agreement with Autodesk, which will provide TechShop locations with its leading portfolio of Digital Prototyping software. TechShop members will be better able to design, visualize and simulate their ideas using Digital Prototyping applications AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor Professional, Autodesk Inventor Fusion Technology Preview, Autodesk Inventor Publisher, Autodesk Alias Design, Autodesk Showcase, Autodesk SketchBook Pro, and Autodesk Mudbox. Autodesk will also provide high-end workstations to run the software within the TechShop collaborative work areas.
Also sharing the exhibit space is 3D Systems, a leading provider of 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing systems and parts solutions. 3D Systems is showcasing its range of 3D printers, from personal printers for under $10K to the professional systems found at a TechShop location near you. With software tools from AutoDesk and complete freedom of design, 3D printers offer prototyping and concept models to fully functional, end use parts.
