Champion Wood Products relocating plant
SELLERSBURG, Ind. (Sept. 13, 2010) - Clark County firms Champion Wood Products, Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering and Southern Indiana Plastics announced today that they will expand their operations creating a combined 91 new jobs by 2013.

"Indiana is competing for and winning competitive investment in southeast Indiana thanks to fiscal stability and a low-cost environment for business," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Champion Wood Products, a manufacturer of wood components for the cabinet and housing markets, will invest more than $1 million to relocate its operations to an existing 56,000 square-foot facility in Sellersburg, creating up to 55 new jobs by 2013. The company has outgrown its existing 35,000 square foot manufacturing space in Jeffersonville. Champion Wood Products has operated in Indiana for more than 50 years.

Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering, which manufactures custom stainless steel tanks, vessels and heat exchangers for the power generation, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, will invest more than $1.5 million to expand its operations into 12,000 square feet of space adjacent to its current manufacturing space in the Sellersburg Industrial Park. The expansion will create up to 22 new jobs. Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering, which markets its products overseas, has recently shipped orders to China, with plans for shipments to India and Saudi Arabia.

"One Southern Indiana has helped us take advantage of state and local incentives that have enabled us to hire new employees to help us grow the company," said Ted Shalosky, president of Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering.

Both Champion Wood Products and Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering plan to begin hiring production workers this fall, with additional new hiring planned over the next two years as facility upgrades are completed.

"Sellersburg is delighted to witness and assist with these company expansions," said Sellersburg town board president Brian Meyer. "In these challenging times, business growth is more critical now than in recent memory. We appreciate our businesses and the jobs they create."

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Champion Wood Products up to $275,000 in performance-based tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. Pharmaceutical Vessel Engineering was offered up to $85,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $40,000 in training grants. The town of Sellersburg will provide additional property tax abatement for both projects at the request of One Southern Indiana.

Southern Indiana Plastics, which manufactures wire harnesses and bumper components for the automotive industry, will invest $650,000 to add 25,000 square feet of space in Jeffersonville, creating up to 14 new jobs. The company, which was established in 1999, manufactures parts for Honda and Toyota. Southern Indiana Plastics plans to begin hiring additional production employees as manufacturing ramps up for new model-year vehicles.

"Clark County is the right place for our company because of the outstanding and versatile workforce in the region," said Roger Smallwood, president of Southern Indiana Plastics. "We're excited to continue growing here and know that we have access to a workforce that can fit our needs as we adapt to fill the needs of our customers."

Southern Indiana Plastics will receive up to $80,000 in training grants from the IEDC. The city of Jeffersonville will provide additional property tax abatement.

Indiana's manufacturing industry received an overall "A" grade in the 2010 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card, released in July by Conexus Indiana. The state also received "A" grades for its global manufacturing position and tax climate.
