Buffalo Niagara Enterprise attracts woodworking firm

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- The month of April saw Buffalo Niagara Enterprise (BNE) successfully attract two Canadian companies to the region; Fashion Village and Kingswood Millwork. The companies are classified in the logistics & distribution and advanced manufacturing targeted industry clusters, and will bring a total of 16 new jobs and $400,000 of investment into the region.

Fashion Village, a women’s clothing distributor, has signed a lease and begun operating at 744 Center St. in Lewiston, New York. The company had previously been distributing to the U.S., but decided to expand to Buffalo Niagara in order to avoid the high tariffs they were paying. Fashion Village has hired 10 employees at their new location and is investing $50,000 in furnishings and equipment.

Kingswood Millwork performs restoration work on historic wood doors and windows. The company was selected as a sub-contractor by a firm that was awarded federal monies for a major restoration project in New York City. The primary contractors desire to use U.S. companies only for the project helped pave the way to convince Kingswood to expand operations on this side of the border. They will now perform all the window and door restoration work on the New York City building while seeking to grow their U.S. customer base. The company is investing $350,000 on machinery & equipment at the facility they are leasing at 951 Lovejoy Avenue in the City of Buffalo. Six new employees are being hired to handle the New York City related work.

Besides these two successful attraction projects, Canadian company interest in the region overall was on the rise in the month of April. BNE received seven strong Canadian company leads and has already begun conducting site searches on behalf of four of those companies.

The seven leads in one month from the Canadian market approaches the BNE’s goal of averaging 7.5 leads per month across all targeted industries, and validates the effectiveness of marketing and business development tactics being employed there.
