Westech and Resysta Unveil Wood-Like Product at IBSHOUSTON, TX – Westech has announced that they will be teaming up with German-owned Resysta to unveil a new wood-like product to North America at the International Builder’s Show in Las Vegas, February 4–6. Westech’s TruGrain made with Resysta claims to deliver all of the aesthetic appeal of wood without the disadvantages like swelling, splintering and rotting.

“We’re excited for this growth opportunity,” said Renee Havrilla, general manager, Westech Building Products, Inc. “We are going to have the very first porch flooring product that looks like exotic or tropical hardwood, is 100% recyclable and is durable and long-lasting like foamed composites,” she said.

Born from the search for a substitute for endangered tropical hardwoods by a European lawn furniture manufacturer, Resysta’s main ingredient is rice husks, the only known agricultural waste product for which, until now, there was no useful purpose. Although Resysta has been available on the European market for 15 years, it’s just now being made available in North America.

“We began talking to Westech about a year ago,” says Michael Sloup, president, Resysta North America, “and discovered we were a perfect fit.” He went on to say, “We believe we can change the industry with this wood substitute.” According to Renee Havrilla, “Water-resistant surfaces with the look of wood are our future.”

She said that current applications include decking, porch, facades, siding, furniture, marine applications and interior design. She said that further applications like windows, framing, laminated panels, etc. are already developed by the industry branches. “Designers all over the world are fascinated by the durability, easy workability and sustainability of the product,” Havrilla said. Unlike other products, which are available in a limited amount of colors, TruGrain made with Resysta boasts the ability to be stained in 20 available environmentally friendly color shades. Stains can be applied either at the factory or on the job site.

In order to allow visitors to see and feel the product for themselves, Resysta has allotted Westech space in their IBS booth on which to build a 6’x 6’ porch featuring Westech’s TruGrain made with Resysta product along with their latest porch rail system, e-Rail, a glass railing system and a powder coated aluminum system. Other products, such as sheets and boards, an exterior door and shower mats made with Resysta will also be on display. Both Havrilla and Sloup will be available at the booth (C7339) to field questions.
