SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A revolutionary advancement in paint technology was introduced here today during Greenbuild, the world’s largest conference dedicated to green building. C2 Cabinet & Trim Paint with patented PolyWhey blends the elegance and durability of an “Old World” traditional oil-based paint with modern day low VOC technology. The product was brought to market through collaboration between The Coatings Alliance, creators of premium C2 Paint, and Vermont Natural Coatings, creator of new science PolyWhey technology.

“Quite simply, this is a revolutionary step forward in the world of premium, high performance paint,” said Thomas Hill, III, co-founder of C2 Paint. “C2 Cabinet & Trim Paint with PolyWhey delivers a perfectly smooth, porcelain finish that is the most eco-friendly and durable paint of its kind. Little did we know that a trip to an organic dairy farm in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom would result in one of the industry’s most groundbreaking products.”

Vermont Natural Coatings, located in Hardwick, VT, is a family-owned company who partnered with dairy farmers, woodworkers and University of Vermont scientists to develop PolyWhey.

The technology utilizes whey proteins, a by-product of cheese making, as its linchpin ingredient to displace toxins traditionally found in wood finishes.

“Collaboration and discovery are the foundation of our company so it was only natural to partner with C2 and apply the revolutionary performance of PolyWhey with the industry leading color technology of C2 Paint,” said Andrew B. Meyer, founder and president of Vermont NaturalCoatings. “Together we’ve formulated a high performance, low VOC trim paint with the color and hand of an old world paint without any environmental compromises.”

C2 Paint was founded via The Coatings Alliance, a group of independent paint and hardware store owners who came together in 1998 to create a collection of ultra-premium paints. The company acquired a sophisticated tinting system which contains more colorants and pigments than any other used in North America. The result is paint with complex hues and rich colors imbued with subtle undertones. The C2 collection was launched in 1982 with an original palette of 496 distinct, handcrafted colors.

Vermont Natural Coatings delivered its first finish to a Vermont general store in 2008. Today the company sells its line of floor, furniture and exterior wood finishes in more than 300 locations throughout the United States and Canada. It has been designated a Top 10 Green Building Product and recently introduced a high performance, low VOC wipe on furniture PolyWhey finish.
