Urban Wood Goods Competes to Win Million Dollar Ad Spot

CHICAGO, IL -- Urban Wood Goods, an artisan reclaimed wood furniture manufacturer based in Chicago, was recently announced as a top 20 semi-finalist in the Intuit Small Business Big Game contest. The company was selected out of nearly 15,000 entries and will go on to compete for the competition’s grand prize: a professionally produced commercial during the 2014 Super Bowl.

"The exposure would literally be ‘game-changing’," said Erin True, co-owner of Urban Wood Goods.

“We’re different from other furniture manufacturers in that we salvage all of the lumber use to make our furniture," True said. “It’s got a history, and it has quite a lot of character. It had a former life before we turned it into furniture!"

All of Urban Wood Goods’ furniture begins with century-old wood, taken from pre-1920s era homes and barns throughout Chicago and the Midwest.

To enter the Small Business Big Game contest, small business owners like True were required to send in their business story via video. Those videos were posted to the Small Business Big Game website, and voting was opened to the public in early August. Only 20 small businesses with the highest votes across several categories have moved on to the semi-finalist round.

Now, Intuit’s 8,000 employees will vote to determine the final four finalists, who will be announced Nov. 11. Voting will then open up to the public once again, and the final prize-winning business will be announced Dec. 1. The winner’s professionally produced commercial will be aired during the Super Bowl on Feb 2, 2014.
