Pella and EFCO Focus on Multi-Family, Net Zero at AIA Expo

PELLA, IOWA —  From innovative building solutions to in-booth training, Pella Windows and Doors and EFCO Corporation offer commercial and residential expertise and products at this year’s American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention to help building professionals get the job done.

From June 20 – 22, 2013, AIA attendees can visit booth #1317 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, for in-booth education programs with Pella and EFCO on “Fenestration Design for High-Rise Multifamily Construction” and “The Role of Windows in Getting to Net Zero.” Attendees also can receive in-booth building information modeling (BIM) training.

“Builders, contractors, architects and designers come to Pella and EFCO when they need trusted partners that offer practical, energy-efficient solutions to meet a wide range of project and design needs,” said Pella Commercial Marketing Manager Terry Zeimetz, AIA, ARA, CSI, CCPR. Pella and EFCO are teaming up for a one-hour continuing education seminar, “Window Replacement Solutions for Commercial Buildings,” that counts toward one learning unit (LU) to help meet Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) requirements. The class is sold out at AIA but will be offered as a free webinar July 23 from 10 – 11 a.m. Central. Click here to register for the webinar.

Products featured in the booth include Pella factory-applied exterior aluminum trim profiles that add architectural detail to aluminum-clad wood windows and doors, and EFCO aluminum 8750XD unitized curtain walls delivering a best-in-class U-factor. These products can also be viewed online at the AIA Virtual Expo.

Factory-applied exterior trim

Pella can help builders save time and money during installation by offering low-maintenance, factory-applied exterior aluminum trims available in custom and standard profiles to complement Pella aluminum-clad wood windows and patio doors.

“This product option is particularly useful for new construction walls where windows are installed from the exterior,” Zeimetz said. “Pella has added small weep holes to the sloped sill nose design, so water that manages to get behind the trim can be stopped by the sealed fin and weep out the front of the sill nose.”

In new construction walls where windows are installed from the interior, this product can be attached to the opening from inside the building, with installation clips or with screws through the frame.

EFCO curtain wall helps lower costs

The EFCO 8750XD unitized curtain wall offers Duracast® fiberglass composite technology in a patent-pending thermally improved design. The curtain wall is shop fabricated and assembled, which means lower field labor costs. With an industry-leading U-factor of 0.31 — a 35 percent improvement compared to conventional unitized curtain walls — the 8750XD offers popular system profiles, multiple configuration options and integral vents for optimal design flexibility.
