OneCollection Brings Chair Designed For UN At ICFF

OneCollection Brings Chair Designed For UN At ICFFNEW YORK, NEW YORK - May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When the Trusteeship Council Chamber in the United Nations was reopened this April after three years of restoration, it was with newly produced furniture by Danish manufacturer OneCollection.

The Chamber is originally designed by iconic Danish architect Finn Juhl in 1950, and together with designer duo Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard OneCollection has had the prestigious task of updating the Chamber with new furniture in the spirit of Finn Juhl 's legacy.

Now, the "Council Chair" will be part of OneCollection's upcoming exhibition at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York along with pieces from OneCollection's exclusive Finn Juhl collection and other furniture for contemporary contract interiors.

OneCollection, owned by Hans Henrik Sorensen and Ivan Hansen , has held the rights to produce Finn Juhl 's organic mid-century designs since 1999. Finn Juhl 's unique style would come to have international significance for Denmark as a design nation. Today, he is part of design history as one of the fathers of Danish Modern.

Juhl was only 38 years old when he was chosen to design the Trusteeship Council Chamber. He created a so-called Gesamtkunstwerk – an all-embracing art form where every design element complements each other to create a functional and aesthetic unity.

For the restored Chamber, OneCollection has developed and manufactured new delegates tables, as well as tables and chairs for the secretariat, all designed by Salto & Sigsgaard. OneCollection also reproduced Finn Juhl 's original FJ51 chair for the delegates.

The Chamber is now one of the finest examples of both the history and the future of Danish design outside of Denmark.

Owner of OneCollection Hans Henrik Sorensen:

"It has been enormously challenging but also a lot of fun to be part of the process of creating Salto & Sigsgaards furniture for the Chamber. Together with the designers we have constantly had to balance on the edge of what is technically possible and collect expertise from all corners of the globe. At the same time we have worked within a very small time frame where nothing was allowed to go wrong. Today, however, we feel that we have created something beautiful and groundbreaking in tandem with the designers. We hope this can inject new interest into Danish design from an international perspective. What a shame Finn Juhl himself couldn't experience this"
