COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Nucraft Furniture Company announced today that Matt Schad has succeeded his father, Tim Schad, as Chief Executive Officer, moving the 70-year-old company into the fourth generation of family leadership.

Nucraft Announces CEO Transition“I am very proud of what Matt has accomplished and know he will bring new energy and vision in this important role,” said Tim Schad, who retains his role as Nucraft’s chairman of the board.

Matt Schad joined Nucraft 10 years ago, and has focused on operations and marketing, serving most recently as Director of Marketing and Business Development. Earlier in his career, Matt worked as an anti-trust attorney in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Amherst College with a degree in Economics in 1994, later earning his law degree from Wake Forest University. Matt also earned an MBA degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Based in the Grand Rapids suburb of Comstock Park, Michigan, Nucraft has been closely held since its founding by George W. Schad in 1944. Through the generations, the company has grown into an award-winning manufacturer of hand-crafted office furniture for private offices, conference rooms and collaborative workspaces. The company is widely admired as a leading brand in the North American contract furniture industry, and in recent years Nucraft increasingly has taken its designs to global markets.

For the past 17 years, the privately owned company has benefited from the professional management leadership of Nucraft President and COO Bob Bockheim, who continues in his executive management position through the transition. “Bob’s leadership has been outstanding as he has doubled the size of the company through new products and greater brand recognition,” said Tim Schad.

Matt Schad voiced his appreciation for Nucraft’s strong executive team that Bob Bockheim has assembled over the years, adding that he is looking forward to working more closely with Bob and the team.

“I am so pleased that I will be able to continue to learn from Bob Bockheim and my father as we make this transition in family leadership over the next several years,” he said. “I have been a part of Bob’s executive team for the last five years and I know first-hand that they are top notch.”

Both Tim and Matt Schad expressed confidence that the company will maintain its focus on producing beautifully designed furniture with meticulous quality and traditional craftsmanship. They said the Schad family is very grateful for Nucraft’s talented and dedicated workforce of 270 people, who have helped achieve a steady record of growth in sales and reputation for the company.

Tim Schad earned an engineering degree from Dartmouth College in 1970, as well as an MBA in 1977 from Harvard Business School. He joined Nucraft in 1980 where he served as vice president and president. Since 1997, he advanced to the positions of chairman and CEO. Tim is active in the West Michigan community, and serves on the boards of numerous West Michigan organizations.
