Charleston, S.C. - Robert Mondavi Jr. and Lydia Mondavi have partnered exclusively with Authentic Reclaimed Pine Floors to create Reserve Barrel, a new, limited edition interior wood floor collection made from Mondavi wine barrels. Samples of the collection will be unveiled for the first time at the Las Vegas NAHB International Builders’ show on February 4 and 5, 2014 at booth C3453. Guests are invited to meet the Mondavis from 1 – 3 p.m. each day and sample the wines that inspired their floor creation: Spellbound Chardonnay, Spellbound Petite Syrah and the new Medusa Red Wine.

"Winemaking families for generations have accented their homes with oak cask wood floors,” explains Robert regarding the inspiration for this design. “I'm constantly amazed at the beauty and depth of penetration that the wines impart into the actual wood. After years of aging the wines, the oak flooring holds a piece of wine making history that we have now captured to share with generations to come.”

This Napa Valley couple lives a lifestyle that reflects their passion for wine and sustainable living principles, captured in their Mondavi Home Collection. Upon returning to Lydia’s family roots with the purchase of their new beach home in Beaufort, S.C., the couple desired to create authentic and unique flooring, distinct to their personal style, family history and business ethos.

Made from French oak and recycled from barrel-heads used in the production of Mondavi wine, Robert hand selects the barrel-heads at the end of each harvest. Authentic Pine Floors then carefully dismantles and mills each wine cask into flooring. The Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner’s collection exemplifies the power, opulence and richness this king of all wine exudes. Cabernet Sauvignon requires years of barrel aging and as the wines ages, a small portion evaporates through the porous wood, a process known as the “angel’s share.” As the angels take their share, the rich, dark red wine is drawn deep into the wood grain diffusing and imparting its signature color and patina. More subtle than the Cabernet Sauvignon Vintners Selection, the Chardonnay Vintners Selection offers a warmth and glow that tells the story of this wine. The inviting, golden colors from the natural grains in the oak are so distinctive yet profoundly versatile that they truly compliment a tremendous range of home décor and style.
