KBIS 2015: Formica Imitates Stone and Wood Textures In New 180fx LineCINCINNATI (Jan. 20, 2015) -- Formica Corporation, the inventor of laminate, introduces four stunning new additions to the company’s best-selling 180fx® laminate line, which imitates the natural detail of stone and wood. The new 180fx® patterns will be on display at the Formica Corporation booth N1139 at the 2015 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas on January 20 – 22.

The laminate line is a revolution in surfacing, offering true-to-scale visual drama. Its large repeat pattern provides a realistic appearance in small and large-scale applications. The modern, sophisticated patterns focus on a neutral palette and are versatile enough to pair with any interior design concept.

“Trends show us that consumers are increasingly gravitating toward the look of reclaimed wood and natural stone finishes,” said Amy Gath, vice president of marketing at Formica Corporation. “We knew that we could create a beautiful, low-maintenance product that would allow them to achieve the dramatic look they desire, at a great price, without sacrificing quality.”

The new 180fx laminate patterns include:

  • 9481-90 Strata Olympico in Gloss finish is a striking marble with a distinctive linear pattern of contrasting white and gray stripes.
  • 9482-90 Marbled Cappuccino in Gloss finish exudes a sense of luxury with its intricate detailing of chocolate brown, cream, white and black.
  • 9483-90 Ferro Grafite in Gloss finish features brown-gray marble with subtle swirls, marked with bold white veins.
  • 9479-NG Wide Planked Walnut in the new Natural GrainTM finish is a harmonious mix of walnut heartwood and sapwood perfected with light to medium brown tones.
With the introduction of EliteFormTM surfacing technology, one existing Formica® Brand finish is now available for 180fx® — Gloss. In the past, this finish was restricted to light-duty horizontal applications, but it is now suitable for countertops. Paired with IdealEdge® decorative edges, these new patterns offer the beauty and sophistication of natural wood and stone, at a fraction of the cost.
To support the launch of its new residential lines, Formica Corporation recently partnered with television host, James Young. Young is a licensed contractor and electrician best known for helping homeowners with budget-friendly tips and advice to transform their kitchens, baths and more into dream spaces.
“Having worked with Formica® Brand Laminate on years worth of projects, I can attest to its high-quality and low maintenance,” said Young. “I particularly love working with 180fx® because the patterns are so striking and true-to-life. Plus, with so many designs to choose from, homeowners can really pick the perfect fit for their unique space.”
The new 180fx® laminate line will begin to roll out this month to home centers and independent kitchen and bath retailers nationwide. Visit formica.com to find the nearest retail location or to request a sample.
