IDS Toronto 2015: Semihandmade's COLOR Line Uses High-Gloss MelamineSemihandmade - first-time exhibitor and maker of one-of-a-kind doors for IKEA® cabinets - announces the debut of its COLOR line at IDS 2015.

Says owner/founder John McDonald, “We’re thrilled to be showing at IDS and can’t think of a better place to launch our new COLOR line of doors. Our sales have grown every year in Canada, so this seemed like the perfect fit.”

Started in 2011, Semihandmade offers custom doors that fit IKEA® kitchens, bathrooms, closets and media cabinets. The thirty-plus finishes include everything from sequence-cut veneers to bamboo and even reclaimed lumber. COLOR is a mix of textured and high-gloss melamine in a variety of tones and patterns.

IDS Toronto 2015: Semihandmade's COLOR Line Uses High-Gloss MelamineSemihandmade’s ECO line of reconstituted veneers was also recently expanded. Introduced in 2014, ECO proved an immediate hit by offering a competitive price without sacrificing quality or looks. “The veneer is real wood,” says McDonald. “And because CNCs are used instead of our standard, hand-cut sequencing, we’re maximizing sheet-yield and cutting labor. That equals savings for the consumer.”

Another exciting development was the opening of a Semihandmade Palm Springs Showroom this past Fall in the city’s Uptown Design District. Adds McDonald, “The response to the Burbank Showroom last year was overwhelming. Despite being 80 miles away from the closest IKEA, traffic in Palm Springs has been just as amazing. The town is positively booming with construction in every sector – residential, commercial, hospitality. We’re right in the middle of it.”

Semihandmade shows no signs of slowing down in 2015; doubling their output in each of the last two years and introducing new doors with specialty brands Plyboo, Intectural and Stikwood is just the start. There’s also IKEA’s debut of the Sektion® kitchen line in February - though stylish and versatile, it’s incompatible with their current Akurum® system. Says McDonald, “Once that stock disappears, owners of IKEA kitchens bought in the last five or six years will need a source for replacement doors and upgrades. We want to help them. We embrace the challenge of meeting this demand and being a turn-key solution for architects, designers, builders and DIYers everywhere!”
