Grand Prize HGTV 2015 Dream Home Awarded

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--There’s a new screenplay that aspiring author Katherine O’Dell, of Huntsville, Alabama, may be writing after today. This former math teacher and computer programmer thought she was ambushing a close friend to share the news of her good luck in the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway®. Her thoughts changed quickly when she found out that the surprise was on her, as she learned she was the winner of the HGTV Dream Home 2015, a grand prize package valued at more than $2 million.

“And every night while we were watching HGTV, my husband and I would both enter twice online. We talked about winning the home every time we entered, but it’s still hard to wrap our heads around the fact we actually won!”

“We watch every minute of the HGTV Dream Home when it’s revealed on New Year’s Day,” said O’Dell. “And every night while we were watching HGTV, my husband and I would both enter twice online. We talked about winning the home every time we entered, but it’s still hard to wrap our heads around the fact we actually won!”

This year’s surprise ambush by host John Gidding and the HGTV production crew was a ‘double’ ambush. The crew enlisted two close friends to tell O’Dell that they wanted her help to surprise another friend, who had received a major award. O’Dell says that she was so focused on surprising her friend that she never considered that she was the focus of the ambush.

In addition to the approximately 3,200-square-foot residence on Martha’s Vineyard and all its furnishing, O’Dell and her husband, Steve, will receive a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali and a $250,000 cash prize provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans.

The HGTV Dream Home 2015 will be awarded to O’Dell in May 2015. Designed by architect Patrick Ahearn, the HGTV Dream Home 2015 has an original Cape house style with three bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths. The heart of the home is the double-height great room and large gourmet kitchen featuring vintage solid beam trusses and large windows with generous views. Three sets of French doors open to a blue stone terrace adding an outdoor living space, complete with a spacious grilling area.

O’Dell also will enjoy a membership in the Field Club, featuring eight tennis courts, lawn game area, outdoor heated pools, deluxe spa, fitness center and a casual restaurant with patio dining.
