SAINT LOUIS, MO – Goebel & Company Furniture today announced that creative director and co-founder Martin Goebel was named 2014 Young Woodworking Professional of the Year by Woodworking Network.

Goebel Furniture Co-founder Martin Goebel Wins Young Wood ProThe inaugural contest, part of Young Woodworking Professional Week August 24-31, 2014, allowed entrants ages 18-35 to submit their work on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter using the hashtag #YWPweek. Next, thousands of fans took to Facebook to endorse their favorite projects and help them move on to the next round. Among a field of five Young Wood Pro finalists, the editors of Woodworking Network selected Goebel as the first Young Woodworking Professional of the Year.

Goebel’s entry was a table comprised of a top created from World War II surplus, aircraft-grade Sugar pine, and a base created in solid 5”x5” walnut timbers. A black toning of joinery was used to ‘low-light’ joinery detailing in order to silhouette major connections.

“For this project, classic timber frame of both building and ship construction heavily influenced the design,” states Goebel. “I am honored to be recognized by the editors and woodworking professionals among an excellent company of peers,” he continued.
