Today we celebrated the opening of our new oriented strand board (OSB) facility in Clarendon County, S.C., and the 130 new local jobs it has created. This addition coincides with many recent improvements we’ve made to our building products business to make our operations more efficient and to increase capacity. This includes recently announced plans for nearly $400 million in potential investments in our plywood and lumber operations across the South.

As the housing market continues its slow recovery, the investment in our Clarendon County facility makes us well-positioned to grow with our customers. The new facility will produce Georgia-Pacific’s OSB products including BlueRibbon® rated sheathing and sub-floor, Thermostat® OSB radiant barrier sheathing, and DryGuard® enhanced OSB sub-floor, plus larger panels used in specialty applications.

Including the new Clarendon jobs, in S.C. we employ more than 1,400 people directly, and those jobs create an additional 4,800 jobs indirectly. Total compensation and benefits for employees in the state is approximately $83 million directly, resulting in nearly $244 million in combined wages and benefits.

In recent years, we’ve also invested more than $8 billion into operations across the country, including S.C., where approximately $166 million in capital has been invested to grow existing operations, acquire new operations, improve safety and environmental performance or efficiency.
