Bamboo Vanities from Native Trails Receive GREEN GOOD Design Award

Bamboo Vanities from Native Trails Receive GREEN GOOD Design AwardTwo bamboo bath vanities created by Native Trails, the eco-chic California company known the world over for its magnificent artisan-made kitchen and bath products, were recently recognized with a prestigious 2014 GREEN GOOD Design Award, which honors the best in modern green design. Both award recipients—the Amelie Vanity and the Halcyon Vanity—are part of Native Trails’ Renewal Series, a contemporary collection of bamboo bath vanities and mirrors. The Renewal Series combines the inherently sustainable properties of bamboo with modern design so inspired it elevates vanities and mirrors into functional pieces of art for the bath.

The GREEN GOOD Design Award is sponsored by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. This year hundreds of entries poured in from two-dozen countries around the globe before the GREEN GOOD Design Award jury identified the world’s most significant examples of sustainable modern design.

Bamboo Vanities from Native Trails Receive GREEN GOOD Design AwardNative Trails introduced its award-winning Renewal Series products, made of FSC-certified Moso bamboo, in 2012. The compact but bold wall-mounted Halcyon Vanity (23″w x 18″d x 19.5″h), which retails for $965, previously won the Decorative Plumbing & Hardware Association’s “Innovative Furniture Product of the Year” award in 2012 and the KBCulture Bath Cabinet award in 2013. To craft this distinctively curved vanity, strand-woven bamboo is utilized and then enhanced with a Caramel finish. Native Trails vanities are sold separately from its popular sinks and mirrors.

“We’re best known for our recycled copper sinks and reclaimed wood furniture, but bamboo has become another of our favorite sustainable materials,” says Native Trails CEO Naomi Neilson Howard. “It’s incredibly strong but pliant enough that our product design team could enjoy great creative freedom when dreaming up these vanities. It’s our hope that Native Trails can help lead the way to a more sustainable world, so it’s been gratifying to see our Halcyon and Amelie Vanities honored this way.”

The soothing lines of the Amelie Vanity (37″w x 22″d x 34″h), which retails for $1,798, make it perfect for a serene bath space, while its handcrafted “wraparound” integral top offers ample countertop space, and a soft-close drawer and tempered glass shelf provide additional storage. Among other fine details, the handiwork of Native Trails artisans is revealed in the vanity’s dovetail craftsmanship.

This is not the first time a Native Trails vanity has been recognized with a GREEN GOOD Design Award. In 2013, the company’s Bordeaux Wall Mount vanity—part of the Vintner’s Collection, which repurposes wine barrels into bath vanities and mirrors—earned a GREEN GOOD Design Award.
