American Seating Unveils New US Wood Base Chair

CHICAGO – American Seating, a leader in innovative seating solutions for 127 years, introduced today the latest freestanding product from its award-winning Us Chair Family: The Us Wood Base Chair.

American Seating Unveils New US Wood Base ChairThe chair adheres to the simplistic design and rigorous engineering of the Us Chair Family, making it a “universal seating” solution for virtually any commercial interior environment. But unlike its predecessors, the Us Wood Base Chair provides a striking study of aesthetic contrast, specifically between its sophisticated wood base and its playful seating shell.

The shell is an ergonomically engineered single curved piece of textured plastic that is situated perfectly atop the geometrically configured wood base. The sleek and man-made design of the shell, which comes in a wide array of contemporary colors, stands in contrast to the strong, natural and rich look of the wood below it. This juxtaposition of seemingly incongruous materials, textures, shapes and colors creates an aesthetic that is simultaneously warm and fun. In essence, it combines art and function together in a seamless fashion.

Specifiers can choose from 434 fabric offerings for the upholstered seat pad and 15 fun shell colors such as “Fresh Cut Lawn,” “Cherry Cobbler,” or “Summer Plum.” The colors range from soft and subtle, which can foster reflection and contemplation, to bright and bold, which can spark engagement and creative thinking. The multi-ply wood base is available in an Ash or Walnut face veener and a clear coat finish. The chair’s dimensions include a spacious 19” sitting surface width and a 33 15/16” height x a 23-13/16” depth.

“The new Us Chair Wood Base is a perfect extension of the Us Chair Family,” said American Seating Director of Product Development Doug Oswald. “It can provide design continuity when specified with other products in the collection, or it can be a distinct stand-alone seating solution. Designers, specifiers and end-users in the higher education market will find it perfectly adaptable for a formal setting or a casual learning environment. It has limitless applications on campuses, including libraries, media rooms, student unions, common areas, residences and dining areas.”

The chair is available Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC)-certified and contains no added urea formaldehyde (NAUF). It offers an exceptional lifecycle resulting in greater environmental benefits.

The award-winning Us Chair Family, introduced at last year’s NeoCon, was designed in partnership with noted industrial designer Jeff Weber of Studio Weber + Associates and renowned colorist Laura Guido-Clark of Laura Guido-Clark Design. The collection consists of five freestanding and three fixed-based models and according to Weber, “is a seating system predicated on the idea of universality. All Us Chair iterations transcend people, place and time, and the wood base chair accomplishes that goal. The Us Chair Wood Base is a synthesis of both truth and beauty. It is super comfortable, durable, serious and fun; it can meet your functional and aesthetic needs.”

The Us Chair Family has already received high praise for its design and engineering. The Us Chair was named a 2012 GOOD DESIGN™ Award Winner besting numerous other furniture products from manufacturers around the world in one of the most prestigious award competitions for new product designs and graphics. The chair was also named a 2012 Best of Year Honoree by Interior Design magazine.
