Grand Prize for BSRA National Championship Belt Sander Races

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA - Accuride announces a grand prize will be awarded to the fastest sander in the modified class at the 2013 National Championship Belt Sander Races, which are set for Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the AWFS®Fair in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Grand Prize, donated by industry notable TigerStop LLC, will be the company’s innovative SawGear Miter Saw Automated Stop Gauge.

The SawGear System streamlines the entire building process from framing to finish with automatic length measuring for miter or chop saws, significantly reducing the time required to measure materials. SawGear is portable, rugged, and accurate to plus or minus 1/128”. It can be installed on the right or left side of miter saws and saw stands. Known for ease of use, the dimension required is simply entered on the keypad and SawGear moves into position. Then, the material is placed against the SawGear’s stop and you’re ready to cut. The SawGear provided by TigerStop is the 8-foot working length (Model SG-08) that has a retail value of $2795.

“We’re grateful for TigerStop’s donation—the SawGear is a great prize that’s definitely going to kick up the competitive spirit at this year’s event,” says BSRA President Jamie Goodwin.

Hosted by Accuride International, the Belt Sander Racing Association (BSRA) and the AWFS®Fair committee, the BSRA National Championship Belt Sander Races bring together enthusiastic spectators and speed-obsessed competitors who race stock and modified belt sanders down a 75-foot wooden track.

There are two racing classes: Stock and Modified. The Stock class requires that the belt sander be a standard product manufactured by a conventional power tool manufacturer. The Modified class allows creative enhancements to improve speed and performance.

Trophies are awarded to the winners in each class along with a special “Best Dressed” award. Both class entries are encouraged to "dress up" their sanders to add personality. Themes range from Hello Kitty to Elvis—which just adds to the fun of the event.

This year includes a new event, the Crash & Smash Demolition Derby. Belt sander racing enthusiasts with sacrificial sanders are invited to participate in the head-on “Crash” segment or the “Smash” segment, where sanders will careen into a post specially designed to cause sanders to break apart.

First debuted in 2005, the National Championship Belt Sander Races are a highlight of the AWFS®Fair, with more than a thousand attendees traditionally packing the grandstands. The AWFS®Fair is known as the industry’s innovation marketplace, attracting thousands of woodworking professionals to Las Vegas, Nevada for in-depth training and a broad-based look at the newest technology solutions for their operations.

AWFS®Fair attendees are encouraged to register early to participate in the race. For more information about Belt Sanding Racing and the BSRA, event rules and regulations, or to register to compete, visit http://www.accuride.com/bsra.
