APA-The Engineered Wood Association was approved for membership in the Canadian Wood Council (CWC) at a recent meeting of the CWC Board of Directors. While APA has had a long-standing membership for glulam products, this new and expanded membership includes APA’s wood structural panel interests.

“This expanded membership provides representation for the APA panel producers at the CWC. This represents a new era for collaboration on technical and market activities of mutual interest for the members of both organizations,” said CWC Chair Kent Fargey. Fargey is President of APA-member Western Archrib in Edmonton, Alberta, and has represented the APA glulam manufacturers on the CWC board for several years.

“The Canadian Wood Council is an important industry partner for APA, and we look forward to taking a more active role with CWC as we work to represent our members’ interests in Canadian codes, standards and market education initiatives,” said APA President Ed Elias.

He noted that with the recent addition of five Canadian plywood mills to its membership, APA now represents about 60 percent of Canada’s plywood production and more than 90 percent of the oriented strand board production.

“We are pleased to welcome APA to CWC,” said CWC President Michael Giroux. “APA brings to CWC a long history and immense knowledge, respect and insight – further strengthening our combined voice in support of Canada’s wood products industry.”
